01. Matter and Its Properties
Matter is everything that occupies space and has mass, composed of atoms. Its properties are categorized as physical or chemical, with physical properties not related to composition. Chemical reactions transform matter, adhering to the conservation of mass. Indicators of a reaction include color change, odor development, and state changes. Continue reading

Hydrogel Powder: A new material for cooling
Researchers at Zhejiang University developed a porous hydrogel powder that transforms into a hydrogel coating upon hydration, effectively retaining water and absorbing heat. In a solar panel cooling experiment with intermittent water spraying, this method achieved a temperature reduction of 48% compared to traditional cooling techniques. Continue reading

“BioPykrete”: Ice as strong as concrete
Scientists at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem created BioPykrete, ice 10 times stronger than ordinary ice. It needs about 70 times more energy to break and withstands higher temperatures. It’s a sustainable biocomposite mixing cellulose nanocrystals with a chimeric protein that bonds to both cellulose and ice. Continue reading
